More about the IB PYP

We are deeply committed to educating our students with the IB learner profile in mind. We are excited to continue our candidacy process and will be sharing more throughout the school year with all of you. This is a tremendous honor for the students, teachers, families and entire UCECP community. To learn more about the IB PYP, please watch the embedded video and feel free to reach out with questions.

We are proud to announce that the Union Church Early Childhood Program (UCECP) is a Candidate School* for the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (IB PYP). The UCECP is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. These are schools that share a common philosophy—a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that the UCECP believes is important for our students.

There are only 1,219 standalone PYP schools worldwide and four PYP standalone early years programs in the United States. We are honored to be accepted into the process of joining that group and to be the first in Illinois. This is much of what our students have already been experiencing in our dynamic learning environments and from their classroom teachers. During our staff in-service planning meetings in August, we decided to explore the transdisciplinary theme of “who we are" as a school community this year. This inquiry will lead us into the nature of the self; beliefs and values; person, physical, mental, social and spiritual health; human relationships including families, friends, communities, cultures'; rights and responsibilities; what it means to be human.
