Relationship with UCH

  • Generous.  Open.  Connected.

We believe church is for anybody and everybody – no exceptions.

We believe church is for anybody and everybody – no exception. Young, old, married, single, struggling, thriving, gay, straight, people with any religious background, doubting, trusting, families with young children, those of long life – yes, everyone is welcome at the Union Church of Hinsdale.

With that being said, Union Church does not use UCECP educational programming for its own religious purposes. The age-appropriate “religious” experience of young children involves wonder, respect, and curiosity, so in and out of the classroom, we celebrate all cultures, customs, beliefs and religions. If your family has a custom that is important to you, we welcome you to share it with your child’s classmates and teachers. We discuss many holidays and beliefs here and pride ourselves on doing so in this rich, diverse, lovingly accepting and curious school community.

The UCECP and Union Church value their partnership with each other and as a member of the UCECP, you can expect to receive periodic emails or communication materials about offerings designed with young families in mind, especially during the Advent and Lent seasons. Members of the UCECP community are always welcome at these church events, and should you desire, the church will happily include your children in things like Vacation Bible School, Rudolph’s Boutique, the Christmas pageant, Easter egg hunt, mission/service projects or children’s chimes/bell choir and more.

What’s more, the church and UCECP work together throughout the year on mission/service projects organized by the Director and our UCECP Parent Group. These projects are meant to give your young children a hands-on lesson in serving others and often support a group or organization from the church’s Ministry-for-Change mission partnerships. Historically, the church and UCECP have also organized a Giving Club for UCECP alumni that encourages them to learn about the beauty of mission work and empowers them to organize a project that benefits a charity or organization of their choice.

Finally, Reverend Grant Glowiak serves as an associate pastor at Union Church and liaison to the UCECP families, teachers and staff.  He is available for any of us at any time (gglowiak@uchinsdale.org or call/text him at 708-606-4723) and we are grateful for his friendship.

We like to say our connection is not so much a classroom connection, but a community connection.  There is a special partnership between Union Church and the UCECP and we hope your family enjoys a warm sense of welcome from both! We’re glad you’re here!
